The Riverside YMCA “Village Project”
The “Village” Program started under the Riverside Police Foundation in 2012. It was an initial partnership between the Riverside Police Department, RUSD, and the Riverside YMCA. Unfortunately, the Riverside YMCA went bankrupt in early 2013 – however, the “Village” remained as a strong component of the Riverside Youth Judo Club and the Police Department.
We have accepted students who have been referred by the Riverside Juvenile Courts and Probation. We also provide Certified Community Service Hours for many of these students. The Riverside Youth Judo Club covers the costs for these students with tuition and uniforms (judo gis). The students referred to our judo club cannot be violent or sexual offenders. The students are closely watched during class in an effort to create positive social bonds.
Several of our Village Students have moved onto Amazing Paths including College and the U.S. Military!!!
